Emu Hunting in Maryland, USA? What the?

Now  I for one am proud of the Australian National Bird, the EMU. Ugly, bad tempered and it can't fly, but it is also fast, loyal and can't go backwards (so can't back down!). What better avian mascot for god's own country? Well turns out those 'Septics in the USA deep south think its ok to shoot one! Take a look at the clip, and you'll see a Good Ol' Boy from Maryland who shot an Emu (note confederate flag hanging of barn - bless him).

The clip says the American hunter shot an Emu who, as "looked like it might cause a traffic problem". Anyone who has stared an emu in the eye would know they look surprised rather than like they are going to make trouble!

What do you think? should we let Americans shoot Emus -  even if it is on their home territory?

  1. This is just plain wrong. Emus are hardly dangerous!

  2. Is it that much of a challenge to shoot a 4 ft high flightless bird?
